Caldwell County Court Docket Searches
Start any Caldwell County court docket search by finding the right court. It is printed on your citation, summons, pleading, or notice. The court on the paper tells you where the case lives. Felony, district civil, family, juvenile, and expunction matters sit with the Caldwell County District Clerk. County Court at Law work, including misdemeanors, civil, probate, guardianship, and mental-health cases, belongs to the County Clerk Courts Division. Small claims, debt claims, evictions, and county fine-only cases stay with the right Justice of the Peace. A city-issued citation stays with that city's municipal court.
When you cannot tell which court holds the file, the statewide re:SearchTX Cases and Hearings portal is a good first step. Coverage varies from court to court, and so does access to documents. Bring an exact cause number if you have one. Otherwise gather the party name, filing year, case type, and likely court. Caldwell County posts no single web ledger. Nothing joins every district, county, JP, and municipal docket together.
- Read the source document and identify the court and issuing agency.
- Open re:SearchTX, choose Cases or Hearings, and filter for Caldwell County.
- Search by the full cause number, or narrow a name search with court and date fields.
- Read events in date order and check for a later reset or continuance.
- Confirm the setting or request a certified copy from the clerk that maintains the case.
Caldwell County Has Two Clerks
Two clerks serve Caldwell County, and the docket you need may rest with either one. District Clerk Juanita Allen keeps records for the 22nd, 207th, and 421st Judicial District Courts, covering felony criminal, district civil, family, child-support, adoption, juvenile, and expunction files. County Clerk Teresa Rodriguez runs the Courts Division. It holds the County Court at Law cases: misdemeanors, that court's civil matters, probate, guardianship, mental-health, and concurrent juvenile work.
The split affects who you call, where you order copies, and who can certify them. District records go through 512-398-1806. County Court at Law records go through the Courts Division at 512-398-1824. Neither office keeps every JP or city case. Match the case level first. Then ask for the docket.
Quick answer: A payment page, e-filing account, or county land-record vendor is not a complete Caldwell County court docket search.
Court Dockets: What They Show
Think of a Caldwell County court docket as an index and a timeline. It may not equal the whole case file. A typical result names the court, cause number, filing date, case type, style, judge, parties, attorneys, filings, and hearings. Each entry marks one act in the case. But a filed motion only shows a request. It is not a ruling, and a notice of setting does not prove the hearing happened. For an order, disposition, reset, or appeal, read the later entries.
| Case Number | Use the exact number printed on the court paper. Caldwell County publishes no universal format example. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Names and roles may appear when public access rules allow them. |
| Docket Entries / Filings | A dated register can list pleadings, service, motions, orders, and other case events. |
| Hearing Settings | The type and date may appear, but the newest entry and clerk confirmation control. |
| Court & Judge | These fields distinguish a district, county, JP, or municipal docket. |
| Disposition | A judgment, dismissal, plea, conviction, nonsuit, or other closing event may be shown. |
Even when a docket line is public, the document image behind it can be restricted, missing online, or sold for a fee. An online screen is never a certified copy. Ask the maintaining clerk whether a plain, certified, or redacted version exists.
Search Caldwell Cases and Hearings
re:SearchTX splits its data into Cases and Hearings. Its quick reference describes a Search By selector, advanced search, wildcard support, date sorting, and case-detail links. A cause number is the best starting point. With only a name, apply the county and court filters and change one value at a time, since a broad search can mix people or courts while a narrow one fails over a stray first name, spelling, or court choice that differs from the clerk's data.
| Control | Use | Caldwell County caution |
|---|---|---|
| Cases | Find the case index and event history | Not every lower-court docket is assured |
| Hearings | Look for a hearing type or setting | Confirm recent changes with the court |
| Search By | Choose name, number, or another available field | Live options can vary by mode |
| Wildcard | Broaden an uncertain name | Review court and party roles before relying on a match |
A blank result does not mean no case exists. For an older file or a local citation, go straight to the proper clerk, JP, or municipal court. The official guide also separates free case data from paid document retrieval for some users.
Caldwell County Courts and Their Dockets
Dockets in Caldwell County run on tiers. The three District Courts take felony cases. They also take major civil and family matters. The County Court at Law hears Class A and B misdemeanors along with a defined mix of civil, probate, guardianship, juvenile, and appellate work. Four Justice Courts each keep their own dockets. They cover small claims, debt, evictions, repair-and-remedy claims, occupational licenses, and fine-only cases. Municipal courts handle city ordinance matters. They also take fine-only state-law or traffic cases issued within their authority.
| Court | Docket Covers | Where to Search |
|---|---|---|
| 22nd, 207th, and 421st District Courts | Felony, district civil, family, juvenile, and related cases | re:SearchTX and District Clerk |
| County Court at Law | Misdemeanor, civil $501 to $200,000, probate, guardianship, and JP appeals | County Clerk Courts Division |
| Justice of the Peace Courts | Fine-only, small claims, debt, eviction, and repair cases | The correct precinct clerk |
| Municipal Courts | City ordinance and eligible fine-only or traffic matters | The issuing city's court |
The county Courts and Justice directory is the official place to confirm routing. A stop by a DPS trooper, county deputy, or constable does not by itself make the city where it happened the venue. Read the issuer and court printed on the citation.
The county's official court overview appears below. It helps separate court offices from payment and records links.
That overview shows why a Caldwell County court docket search works best when it starts with the court level. A broad county-wide name search is the weaker route.
Caldwell County Settings Pipeline
Courts, not parties, control settings. The Caldwell and Comal district local rules are published through the Texas Office of Court Administration. They tell a party to contact the court administrator or coordinator for an open date. From there, the process runs through a written motion or order, notice to opposing counsel, and an estimate of hearing length. The District Clerk keeps a trial-docket schedule you can copy under those rules.
Elisa Finger coordinates settings for all three Caldwell County District Courts, while administrator Joseana Charlton handles scheduling for the County Court at Law. These contacts solve a different problem than the record desks. The clerk locates the docket. The coordinator confirms how the court actually set a matter. When timing matters, check the re:SearchTX entry. Compare it against the newest filed notice and the correct coordinator.
The official county page below lists the three district courts and their shared coordinator.
That shared route covers district settings only, not County Court at Law, JP, or city court dates.
Court Dates and Settings in Caldwell County
Caldwell County posts no single daily or weekly docket sheet. Start with whatever date appears on your newest summons, citation, notice, or order. From there, pull up the Hearings view in re:SearchTX. Check it against the chronological case entries. A date can linger after a continuance. A word like reset, passed, continued, cancelled, or notice of setting only means something when you read it beside the later event.
Need a human confirmation? District settings go to Elisa Finger at 512-398-1807. County Court at Law settings route to Joseana Charlton at 512-359-4348. For records, dial 512-398-1806 for district and 512-398-1824 for County Clerk Courts. JP and municipal matters each sit with that court's own clerk. The Caldwell County court schedule page walks through each route. It also explains why a jury-service recording is not a case calendar.
When dates conflict, keep the cause number handy and ask which event stands as current. A stale web result does not vanish just because a setting moved.
Caldwell County Docket Terms
There is no official Caldwell County abbreviation codebook. That gap matters more than you might think. Read any short event label alongside its date, document, and case status, and confirm with the clerk when the effect is unclear. Familiar Texas terms can guide a first read, but treat them as general usage, not as unique Caldwell County codes.
- Filed
- A paper entered in the case record. Filing alone does not show that the court granted its request.
- Notice of setting
- A notice that identifies a scheduled event. Later entries may move or cancel it.
- Reset or continued
- The prior setting changed. Find the newer date or call the court.
- DWOP
- Dismissed for want of prosecution, a civil disposition term that should be checked against the final order.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome or closing event, which may include a judgment, dismissal, plea, or other result.
A docket line and the paper behind it are two different products. The event index may be public while the image itself stays restricted or must be ordered. A closed status is no better; it says nothing about the exact terms of the final order.
Docket Access Under Texas Law
Texas court records do not sit inside one tidy open-records rule. Judicial records answer to court rules and other law. Caldwell County's written Public Information Act channel covers county government records instead. So the first call goes to the court or clerk holding the case file. One more wrinkle exists. A public docket can coexist with a sealed document, a protected identifier, or a restricted juvenile, adoption, guardianship, mental-health, expunction, or nondisclosure record.
Key Rules:
Texas Rules of Judicial Administration, Rule 12 sets access procedures and exceptions for covered judicial records.
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a starts with a presumption that civil court records are open and sets the sealing test.
Texas Government Code Chapter 552, including Section 552.0035, separates the judiciary from ordinary Public Information Act treatment.
If access is denied, ask which rule, order, or exception controls and whether a public redacted copy exists. The county PIA email cannot override a court's seal order. It is not an appeal.
Caldwell County Copy Costs
What you order matters as much as the docket search itself. A screen result identifies a case. A plain copy reproduces a page from the file. A certified copy carries the clerk's seal. Caldwell County's current District Clerk fee page lists a $5 record search and a $5 certified seal, with hard copies at $1 per page. Electronic delivery runs $1 per page for the first ten pages. After that it costs ten cents per page. Those figures apply to the District Clerk route only. Do not assume them for a city court, a Justice Court, or every County Clerk product.
A January 2024 County Clerk schedule priced plain copies at $1 per page and certification at $5 per document. That schedule carries a date, so request a current quote from the Courts Division before ordering. For an exemplified copy, archived-file retrieval, public-terminal print, court reporter transcript, or municipal docket copy, the clerk pages post no current amount. Ask directly. Spell out the cause number, court, exact document, plain or certified choice, and delivery method, then request a cost estimate up front.
| District Clerk product | Published amount | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Record search | $5 | Whether the fee applies to the requested search |
| Certified seal | $5 | Any added page or document charge |
| Hard copy | $1 per page | Page count and delivery cost |
| Electronic delivery | $1 per page for ten pages, then $0.10 per page | Format and total page count |
Payment rules differ too. The current county page says cash has not been accepted since September 1, 2025, leaving business checks, cashier's checks, money orders, and cards as the listed options. Online felony and misdemeanor payment channels may add a five percent convenience fee with a one-dollar minimum. Paying off a balance is a separate task from getting a docket or a certified file.
For anything not online, call the record keeper first. Ask whether mail, counter pickup, electronic delivery, or another method is available. The public clerk pages promise no general turnaround. A narrow request still helps. Staff can go straight to the right court and document instead of guessing at a large file.
Caldwell County Docket Access Gaps
Caldwell County's public material promises no free lobby terminal. No staff-run name search is promised. Nor is there any promise of a single daily calendar, a universal case-number pattern, or a full online docket for every lower court. Let those gaps shape your search. Call before you travel. Ask whether a paper schedule, a workstation, an inspection appointment, or older-file retrieval is available.
The Justice Center at 1703 S. Colorado Street is the working home of the District Clerk, the County Clerk Courts Division, the District Courts, and County Court at Law. The historic courthouse at 110 S. Main Street still serves county government, but it is not the default stop for these court records. Justice Center offices close from noon to 1:00 p.m. daily.
The official Caldwell County Justice Courts page lays out the four separate JP routes.
Each JP keeps its own lower-court records. A request sent to the wrong precinct can delay a date or copy check.
How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records
Two offices inside the Caldwell County Justice Center hold the docket records: the District Clerk and the County Clerk Courts Division. Both sit in the Caldwell County Justice Center. Each certifies only its own files. Start a docket search online with re:SearchTX, where coverage exists. At the counter, go to the right office. Ask whether public inspection or a work station is offered. Callers should give the court, the cause number, the case type, and the filing year. The clerk pages promise no general email copy queue. Ask about mail or delivery instead.
Fees differ by office. The District Clerk charges a $5 record search and a $5 certified seal. Hard copies run $1 per page, and electronic delivery runs $1 per page for the first ten pages, then ten cents per page. The County Clerk's older schedule showed $1 per page plus $5 per document to certify. Confirm current amounts before paying. One more thing: since September 2025, the County Clerk takes no cash.

For a JP or municipal docket, skip both county clerks and call that court directly. Clerk staff can explain the process and the public product. They cannot give legal advice.
Caldwell County Written Record Requests
When a Caldwell County record is not posted anywhere, a written request still works. Send it to the right office. Caldwell County takes Public Information Act requests in several ways. Email PIARequest@co.caldwell.tx.us, or fax 512-398-1814. Mail and in person also work, through the Public Information Officer at the District Attorney's office, Justice Center Box 5. The official county request page requires a written request. It also asks that you describe the existing record sought.
Know the limits of that route. It cannot force the county to create a new record, do legal research, or answer a question. Nor is it a substitute for court access to a judicial case file. Need a docket, pleading, order, or judgment? Ask the maintaining court's clerk about inspection and copies first. For an administrative county record, use the PIA route. State your preferred form of access. Ask for a cost estimate before the work begins.
- Identify whether the item is a judicial case record or a county administrative record.
- For a case file, contact the District Clerk, County Clerk Courts Division, JP, or municipal clerk that maintains it.
- Describe the court, cause number, date range, and exact document rather than asking staff to answer a legal question.
- Request a public or redacted version if protected material prevents release of the complete document.
- For a county PIA request, state the requested delivery method and ask for a cost estimate.
One timing note from the county page. The county may seek an Attorney General ruling on a request. A requester should get notified within ten business days. That notice is not a promise the request itself finishes in ten days. If a judicial record is denied, a court rule, order, or exception governs. The clerk should name that basis plus the correct review process.
Custody also splits at the lower-court level. A city clerk, not Caldwell County's PIA officer, keeps a municipal citation file. Each Justice Court holds its own civil and fine-only records. A Lockhart police citation never goes to JP1. A county deputy citation should not land in a city court just because of where the stop happened.
Caldwell County E-Filing Since 2019
Caldwell County runs its Odyssey case-management system. It takes electronic filings through eFileTexas and approved providers. Civil e-filing is mandatory statewide. Attorney criminal e-filing became mandatory in Caldwell County on July 1, 2019. That deadline explains how new pleadings reach the clerk's case record. The filing portal is not a public docket, though. Attorneys file through one channel. The public checks cases and hearings through another.
A submitted paper may sit unaccepted and unindexed for a while. Sensitive data rules can also shape what the public sees. If a fresh filing has not appeared, confirm acceptance with the filing service. Then ask the correct clerk about the public case entry. A felony payment portal is not a case viewer. Never treat it as one just because it accepts a cause number. The County Court at Law page lists that court's own filing, setting, and procedure routes.
That court page is a useful reminder. Public search, e-filing, payment, and scheduling are separate functions, and treating them as one invites dead ends.
City-by-City Court Dockets in Caldwell County
Municipal court records belong to the city that issued the case. Caldwell County's five incorporated places each get their own card. Those places are Lockhart, Luling, Uhland, Martindale, and Mustang Ridge. Those pages cover city ordinance and fine-only matters. They also cover plea and payment routes, plus the local fallback when no public docket viewer exists. County or state officers can still route a citation to a Justice Court. So read the issuer and named court on the ticket rather than assuming the nearest city handles it.
The cities differ. Lockhart and Luling maintain distinct court contacts and forms. Martindale posts detailed plea and payment material alongside conflicting office-day information. Mustang Ridge offers a court page and document library but no case-event search. Uhland's ordinance confirms the municipal court's legal basis. The city posts no current public docket contact, though. Each card points to the real local record path. None of them dresses up a payment tool as a docket search.
Lockhart Court Records
14,379 in the 2020 Census · City citations route to Lockhart Municipal Court.
Luling Court Records
5,599 in the 2020 Census · Luling city cases and JP2 cases use separate courts.
Uhland Court Records
1,588 in the 2020 place table · Start with the city for municipal citations.
Martindale Court Records
1,253 in the 2020 Census · Phone, counter, mail, and drop-box routes are documented.
Mustang Ridge Court Records
944 in the 2020 ranking · The payment link is not a confirmed docket viewer.
